Towards a Carbon-free Future

Wind turbines have been installed and operating for over 10 years in freshwater in the Netherlands and Sweden with no adverse impacts on drinking water quality, proving that freshwater offshore wind can and has been developed responsibly. Freshwater offshore wind can be developed in Lake Erie with minimal adverse impact and here are some studies that support this fact.

Cleaner Air & Water

By leveraging the power of Lake Erie’s offshore wind, we can produce clean, reliable electricity while continuing to clean up Lake Erie’s water.

New York State has the nation’s most ambitious climate goals: 70 percent renewable energy generation by 2030 and 100 percent carbon-free electricity by 2040.

Lake Erie offshore wind will help New York reach those goals and continue the cleanup of Western New York's air and water, using clean energy to reduce pollution and protect our region's drinking water and aquatic life.

Fewer Greenhouse Gases

And with climate change threatening our homes, our economy and our future, investing in offshore wind will generate energy without emitting greenhouse gases.

Investing in offshore wind power will let us continue the progress we’ve made on cleaning up Lake Erie, restoring its environment and preserving the natural beauty and recreational activities we all love.

In fact, the local tax revenue from offshore wind power would be a major boost to Erie County finances and help keep our property taxes under control.
